are perfect too

Dogs with disabilities are over looked in most situations. If you could choose between a “normal” puppy or a pup with a disability, which one would you pick? Now I’m going to assume that part of you would like to think that you would choose the one with a disability and in some cases people do. 68% of the people that we asked this exact question to said that they would choose the pup with disabilities.

"over looked in most situations"

In this day and age, people are always searching for perfection and this has also seeped into the canine world in which some people are wanting the perfect pooch. It is understandable that some people do not have the financial security or the required circumstances to look after and nurture a pooch with disabilities. However if you do have the financial security and the right circumstances then giving a disabled pup a chance to live a full and happy life could be the best thing you will ever do.

Victoria, 37, has been Spenny’s mum since day one, he was literally born into her hands and he hasn’t left her side since. Spenny is a very special boy as he was born with Anophthalmia, which is a condition where a dog (or human) is born with no eyes or tiny ornamental eyes that do not work. Many people wouldn’t of taken on a puppy with this disability and even Victoria was terrified and was advised by a few breeders to have him put to sleep but she believes that ‘he was sent here’ for her and has ‘learned so much from him’.

"determined little soul"

Each day was a learning curve for both Spenny and Victoria but Spenny took everything in his stride, whilst putting his trust and faith into his mum and fellow Chihuahua  family. You would think that there would be a vast amount of differences between Spenny and non-disabled pups but in Victoria’s eyes there wasn’t ‘as many as you would think’. By allowing him to be a dog and gentle reassurance, he never let his lack of sight hold him back and he has become a ‘determined little soul’. Just like non disabled dogs, Spenny has many fur-iends that he loves meeting each week.  When we asked Victoria what she has gained by having Spenny this is what she had to say:

“ Spenny is amazing and has done more for me then I could ever do for him. He is everything, I think we saved each other if I’m honest. Without that little dog I’m doubtful I’d still be here. If I didn’t have him through my divorce and all the rubbish, I think things would be very different. I think that’s also why I’m so very grateful to such a wonderful little dog. He grew up into this brave confident little dude that everyone who meets him loves. People are convinced he can see because he is so clever. Spence has been the most wonderful support and made me get out in the world we have the best adventures”
